Lunch time routine

To appease my own fear of missing something in my children's education, I read from the Core Knowledge series to my children every day during lunch. I read just a section from a yonger grade level and from an older grade level. We discuss what we read and then I read a couple of chapters from a classic chapter book. When they are finished eating, they draw as they listen. After I am done reading the books, we take and grade the quizzes. I am trying to work in 10 minutes of essay writing one day a week and I think that is the direction we are headed but it takes a while of starting and stopping before we get really consistant about something.

I keep hoping that the reading will inspire them to want to study more things on their own. Sometimes that works out for us. Other times, it just fosters a conversation. Either way, it is good.
